Every New Year’s Day in Philadelphia, PA (barring excessive winds) for over a century, there occurs an annual Mummers Parade. Comics, Fancies, String Bands and Fancy Brigades participate in this annual event that has become a city tradition.
There has to be a story in there, perhaps focused on one of the string bands, which would make a sensational, original Broadway musical. The Finns and the Swedes, George Washington, racial tensions and class tumult all could play a role in this story. Any native Philly dramatists ready for the challenge?
